Our Mission
An empowering digital world for all Australians
Our Story
The development of the SOLID technology was initiated by Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, and a team of researchers at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL).

Sir Berners-Lee had become increasingly concerned about the centralisation of the web and the concentration of power in a few large tech companies. He believed that this model was undermining the original vision of the web as an open, democratic, and user-centered platform.

To address these concerns, Berners-Lee and his team began working on SOLID in the mid-2010s. The goal was to create a new web architecture that would give users more control over their data and promote greater interoperability and collaboration.

Solid has extended the web to include identity management, access control and universal standards for user-centric data management.

Solid AU is partnering with progressive organisations to foster the adoption of Solid in Australia.
